The Vocabulary Teaching Cycle

The Vocabulary Teaching Cycle consists of several key stages:

1. Choose & Select Words: Focus on high-frequency vocabulary, such as the Oxford 3000 and Oxford 5000 word lists.
2. Present in Context: Never memorize isolated word lists without seeing how words function inside natural sentences.
3. Clarify Meaning, Form & Pronunciation: Understand parts of speech, British/American phonetic IPA symbols, and contextual nuances.
4. Controlled & Freer Practice: Use smart quizzes, active recall, and spaced repetition intervals to reinforce neural connections.
5. Recycling & Retrieval: Regularly listen to native pronunciations in hands-free continuous play to engrain long-term memory.

Key Tips to Accelerate Your Progress

• Visual Associations: Associate each new word with an intuitive picture or real-world mental image.
• Root Words, Prefixes & Suffixes: One Greek or Latin root often unlocks the meaning of dozens of related vocabulary words.
• Active Usage: Try writing at least 2 sentences daily using recently learned words.
